Helical Piles - Salem Massachusetts

Problem:
Two three-story affordable housing units were planned on a property containing fill soils. The new construction could not be founded on the unsuitable fill, and deep foundation support was required. Because the site is within a densely populated neighborhood, noise and vibrations were major considerations in choosing the deep foundation system.

Engineering Design:
Gemini Geotechnical Associates were the engineer-of-record for the project. Because of the above mentioned factors, Gemini chose helical piles as the best way to support the new foundations.

Project Details:
Northeast Helical installed a total of 86 helical piles to support the new buildings. The piles penetrated the unsuitable fill and organic soils, and were embedded into the glacial till below. Pile lengths varied from 14 feet to 35 feet below grade. The project was successfully completed in 4 weeks.
