Problem:
A new deck was planned over a wetland area. Conventional concrete sonotubes were not viable due to the soft soil and high water table. Furthermore site access was very limited and disturbance to the surrounding area was to be minimized. |
Project Details:
A.B. Chance helical piles were installed using portable equipment. The piles advanced through the organic soils to the dense material below.
The piles were fitted with U-shaped walkway brackets, which accept timber framing using thru-bolts. |

After the piles were installed, the carpenters rapidly installed the joists and decking above.
